Indications for bariatric surgery
Selection criteria for bariatric surgery in most areas include:

BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2, or more than 45.35 kg (100 pounds) overweight.

BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2 and at least one or more obesity-related comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), arterial hypertension, sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, disorders gastrointestinal or heart disease.

Inability to achieve sustained healthy weight loss over a period of time with previous weight loss efforts.

Absence of a secondary cause of obesity.

Willingness to cooperate with long-term follow-up.

Acceptable operative risk.

Not recommended yet for those under 18 or over 60 years old.
